Taking Your Practical Driving Test in Wavertree

So, you’ve passed your theory test and now, the only thing between you and driving independence is the practical exam. Here’s everything you’ll need to know about taking your test in Wavertree.

This will test your ability to be able to drive safely in a variety of traffic conditions and your knowledge of The Highway Code.

Booking Your Test

To book your driving test, you must

·         have passed your theory test,

·         be over 17 years old and

·         have a valid provisional driving licence.

Your driving instructor should be able to tell you when you will be ready to book the test.

As you did with the theory test, you will book your practical exam online through the GOV.UK website. You will need to provide your provisional licence number, your email address and credit or debit card information.

Test Centre

There are a number of test centres in and around Liverpool, including Norris Green, Garston, Wallasey, Widnes, Upton, St Helens, Warrington and Chester. You should book in at a centre based in the area you have been practicing. Your instructor will be able to advise you if you are unsure.

The Exam

The practical driving test will last for around 40 minutes and will include 5 assessments:

·         Eyesight test

·         ‘Show me, tell me’ questions

·         General driving ability

·         Reversing

·         Independent driving

After the Test

When the examiner is satisfied with their assessment of your driving ability, they will guide you back to the test centre and tell you whether or not you have passed. If you did not pass, they will explain the reasons why and you will have to wait a minimum of 10 days before you rebooking.

If you pass, well done! Now you can come and choose your first car at Wavertree Car Centre. We have an excellent selection of vehicles well suited to new drivers and will be happy to advise you!
